Piles

Piles, also known as hemorrhoids, are swollen blood vessels in the rectal or anal area. They can be internal (inside the rectum) or external (under the skin around the anus).

Causes

1. Straining during bowel movements is a primary cause, often due to constipation or diarrhea.
2. Chronic constipation or diarrhea can increase pressure in the rectal area.
3. Pregnancy can lead to increased pressure on the pelvic blood vessels.
4. Obesity and a sedentary lifestyle can contribute to hemorrhoid development.
5. Aging may weaken the supportive tissues in the rectal area.

Treatment

1. Lifestyle modifications: Dietary changes with more fiber, increased water intake, and regular exercise.
2. Topical creams and ointments: Over-the-counter products can provide relief from itching and discomfort.
3. Sitz baths: Soaking the anal area in warm water for 15 minutes several times a day can ease symptoms.
4. Medications: Doctors may prescribe suppositories or oral medications to reduce inflammation and pain.
5. Procedures: Severe cases may require procedures like rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, or surgical removal.

Early intervention and lifestyle adjustments often help manage piles. However, it’s crucial to consult a healthcare professional for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan tailored to your specific condition.
